Thor didn’t mind these fancy parties too much. Some of them were fun and reminded him of times on Asgard. This party at the museum was not one of those times. You had to be quiet and just wander around and sip boring alcohol. Not only that but people kept bothering him when all he wanted to do was look at the near sculptures and pictures. Thor actually liked art even if he didn’t always understand it.

So when he spotted a gorgeous woman who seemed to be all by herself he didn’t hesitate to approach her, hoping to get away from all the other people who kept bothering them.

“Excuse me,” Thor said, smiling at her as he loosened the tie on his suit a bit. “Are you a guest or one of the works of art?”

Jessica's been going to charity galas since she was a teenager and she feels relatively at home at them. Still, it's nice to have a date. Malcolm has ditched her for a murder, of course. Gil is probably with him, not that she and Gil are together anyway. If she thinks about what happened between them for too long, it will probably break her heart. She may be here alone tonight, but she's not going to wallow.

The man who approaches her with what is obviously a pick up line is almost too good to be true. Jessica looks him over, because how can she not?

"Aren't you sweet?" she replies before sipping her champagne. "Not a fan of the art on the wall?"

Thor noticed her check him out but he was somewhat used to it. Besides, it was always an ego boost when a beautiful woman checked him out. He appreciated the confidence that she was showing as well.

“I like it just fine. I just don’t like being bothered while I’m looking at it,” Thor admitted. People were either boring or pretentious when they wanted to talk to him and it was exhausting. At times.

“Which I’m now doing to you. I’m sorry. If you’ll like I can go but I was hoping you could walk with me while we look at the art?” he said, offering her his arm. “I’m Thor by the way. Thor Odinson. You might have heard of me? They named a day after me.”

"It's alright. You seem like a lovely distraction." Jessica puts his hand on the crook of his offered arm.

She's shocked when she realizes who she's walking with. "Oh! One of the Avengers." And a god. A god just complimented her? She wishes she could see her ex-husband's face. "I'm Jessica Whitly. Are you enjoying the exhibit?"

“I’m enjoying it a lot more now,” Thor said, giving her a wink. It was a bit of an obvious flirt but Thor wasn’t exactly the subtle sort. Even if she was with someone it was fun to enjoy the company of a beautiful woman.

“But I like art, especially Earth art. It’s more subtle than a lot of what Asgard does. It makes you think more. What about you? Do you have a favorite piece here?”

She grins, more than happy to flirt with one of the most handsome men she's ever seen. This evening is looking up.

"I'm curious about Asgard art now," she says, steering Thor towards one of the paintings she enjoyed. "I feel as though this speaks to me on a spiritual level."

Jessica has a teasing smile on her face. She's making fun, but she's not completely joking.

Well, Thor is certainly enjoying the evening more now that he has a gorgeous woman to flirt with. More to that she also seemed fun and interesting from their already short interaction.

"It's all commemorating glories of past battles and great feats. But honestly how many golden statues of someone do you need?" Thor said before turning to the painting that she pointed out, giving a laugh. "Really? I prefer to do most of my drinking with someone. Have you ever tried mead?"

"How many golden statues of you are there?" she asks.

Jessica is glad that she made him laugh. Her drinking is often alone because that's usually what she is. Many of her social contacts ditched her after what Martin did.

"No, I can't say I've ever had mead."

“Oh I don’t know. A few dozen or so?” Thor said, shrugging a bit. After your first few they weren’t nearly as exciting. They were still somewhat exciting, just not quite as much as the first.

“No mead? That’s a tragedy. Would you like to try some? I have some back at my place at the Avengers Tower.”

It was a fairly obvious offer for more than just mead but Thor was enjoying himself with Jessica. That and he couldn’t help but notice how nicely she looked in her outfit.”

She can't help but raise an eyebrow at that. Jessica knows what he's getting at, and she's kind of surprised, particularly because he's asking so soon.

"Not enjoying the gallery opening?" she asks teasingly.

Thor isn’t one to really be patient, he gets excited about an idea and just runs with it. If she turned him down he wouldn’t be too bothered and would still enjoy her company here.

“There’s a lot of people saying a lot of ridiculous things trying to sound like they’re saying something deep and important,” Thor said, his large shoulders shrugging. “I just like looking at beautiful things.”

He's not wrong at all about the pretentiousness of the people at events like these. Oftentimes, she gets ignored anyway, due to who her ex-husband is.

"Why don't we start with a drink at the bar?" Jessica asks, steering him in that direction. She's cautious because she's not used to be flirted with so openly by such a young, good-looking man.

“Excellent,” Thor said with a grin, not at all bothered by her suggestion. If she wasn’t up for leaving with him that was absolutely fine, at least she wanted to continue to talk to him.

“And I’m sorry, I should have asked if you were here with someone?” Thor added as they headed toward the bar. It might get awkward if she had a date that was going to return in a moment.

"I'm not," Jessica replies with a wry smile. "My son ditched me for a murder." A beat. "He works with the NYPD."

Best to clarify that, especially considering who her ex-husband is. Jessica is fairly sure that Thor doesn't know about Martin Whitly though.

Thor was about to comment about her son ditching her for a murder until she explained what he meant and he gave a nod.

“You must be proud of him, even if it must be hard to have him do a job like that,” Thor said. He knew that his own mother had worried about him going off to battle but was glad he was fighting to protect others. Well, and fighting because he loved it.

"I am very proud of him," she says with a sigh as the two of them sit down at the bar. "I just worry about him. He's such a workaholic and I fear for his health and safety sometimes."

Jessica waves a hand. "Sorry. You don't need to hear about my problems." She orders a martini from the bartender.

Thor ordered two beers poured into a large mug before turning back to Jessica.

“You don’t have to apologize,” Thor said, reaching out and resting a large hand on her shoulder as he gave her an earnest look. “Family is important and he’s lucky to have you to worry about him. My mother worried about me for nearly every day of my 1500 years and I’m no doubt better for it.”

Jessica watches, genuinely a bit fascinated as Thor pours two beers into his mug. He'll probably drink all of that relatively quickly and it won't affect him one bit.

"1500 years?" she asks, a sly smile on her face. "You don't look a day over 30." Jessica sips her martini. "Malcolm does like me fussing over him, but I only do it because I care."

“Well I have good genes,” Thor said giving her a wink before he took hold of the mug and downed all of it in one long gulp.

“And I’m sure he knows that, it just sometimes makes us feel like we’re not trusted. But, for all I’m sorry he left you here I appreciate the company.”

She gapes a little as he chugs the whole beer with seemingly no effort. Shit. Jessica probably shouldn't find that as attractive as she does. It's particularly attractive that he can seamlessly carry on a conversation while he does it.

"I do trust him... I just want him to be safe."

But, enough talk about Malcolm.

"His loss is your gain tonight, and mine as well, I think."

“I certainly count it as gain. You’re a beautiful woman and an excellent conversationalist. I’m surprised I didn’t have to fight people off for your company,” Thor told her. He absolutely would have fought them off if it was necessary. Probably not the best thing to do at their current event all things considered though. But it was odd that no one else had approached her.

She laughs somewhat nervously.

"Well, you know how it is for women of a certain age, unfortunately," Jessica says.

That's not entirely a lie. It does get harder for women to date, the older they get. Jessica knows that's not why people tend to avoid her though. She'd rather not tell Thor about Martin Whitly right now though. He's already ruined enough of her life.

"But thank you. That's very flattering."

Thor had absolutely no idea how it was for women of a certain age but he was just going to take her word for it. Also it was clearly not a favorite conversation of hers and he didn’t want to press it.

“So what do you do when you’re not attending fancy gallery openings?”

"Attend fancy brunches," she replies with a teasing smile. "I do some charity work as well. Mostly on the financial donation end." Jessica doesn't often get her hands dirty, if she can help it.

"What about you?" she asks. "I'm sure you do many more interesting things than attending fancy gallery openings."

"I love brunch! How come only some things are served at brunch? Also, it's acceptable to drink at brunch which is an excellent idea," Thor said. How come people only served eggs benedict and mimosas when it was brunch? That should be an all the time thing.

"And you know, traveling to distant realms, meeting and fighting new and evil people... helping out wherever I can. Regular Avengers stuff."

"And now you've figured out why brunch is my favorite meal," Jessica says with a grin. She can knock back mimosas like people drink water.

In some ways, what Thor does is similar to what Malcolm does, though on a much grander scale. "What's the most interesting distant realm you've been to?" she asks.

"If you want interesting you have to go to Knowhere. It's this... giant, disembodied head of a being called a Celestial," Thor said, excited to be talking about some of the places that he'd been and that Jessica seemed interested in them. "It's a lawless place but it's the home of the Collector, who houses all sorts of unique and strange items from all over the galaxy."

Jessica stares at him in mild disbelief, then takes a sip of her drink. "And here I thought there was nowhere odder than Brooklyn," she jokes. "It's weird to think that you can just travel around the universe that easily."

"I'm sure that humans will get around to it eventually," Thor reassured her. Some of them already did but it wasn't as common as it was with some species. "There are some incredible places out there to see."

"We haven't even made it to Mars yet, despite Elon Musk's best efforts," Jessica says.

She takes a look around at the people milling around the gallery - the same boring people who come to all of these gallery openings. Jessica has seen all of them before. She's been to a hundred events like this. And here a god is paying attention to her and she's content to sit at the bar and have a drink?

"Did you say something earlier about getting out of here?" she asks casually.

“I did mention something about drinks at the Avengers Tower,” Thor said, nodding at her. He didn’t want to look overly eager but he did like the idea of going somewhere more private with her.

“We could get one of those little yellow cars or I could fly you there?”

"That's right, you did," she responds with a sly smile. At his mention of flying her though, it fades a bit into panic.

"I think the cab would be better."

Superhero or not, she doesn't trust anyone to take her God-knows how high in the sky without some kind of secure protection.

“A cab then!” Thor said with a grin as he stood up, offering her his arm. If she was worried that the amount he drank might effect him then hopefully the fact that he didn’t wobble at all would reassure her.

Once they were outside and one of the people in the livery of the museum who was in charge of summoning cabs was waving for one Thor turned to Jessica.

“I want you to know just because you’re coming with me there’s no pressure. Anytime you want to leave I’ll summon you one of these vehicles to take you home.”

Jessica imagines that Thor has a pretty high tolerance considering how big he is. It's still probably better that someone else is doing the driving though.

"That's gentlemanly of you," she says with a smile. "I wouldn't want to sound easy, of course, but I assure you there would be no pressuring."

She's a grown woman, and if the evening keeps going in this direction, then she won't have any regrets about whatever happens between the two of them.

“That’s very good to hear, because I was hoping to show you what it’s like to be worshipped by a god,” Thor said, his voice low as he leaned in close to speak the words directly into her ear. Jessica was gorgeous and brilliant from what little he had seen so he was delighted to find that they were on the same page.

Jessica is, admittedly a bit shocked to hear those words from him. He may be an immortal god, but he looks 20 years younger than her. She can't help but be a little intimidated by the idea of sleeping with him.

She blushes, hoping that it's hidden in the darkness of the cab. "Perhaps I'll let you show me," Jessica replies with a little laugh. It's been a while since she's had a man flirt so openly with her, especially one that looks like Thor.

"I hope you have the rest of the night free then," Thor said, grinning at her, pulling away but resting a hand on her leg. Jessica was gorgeous and the idea of being with her was arousing. If she bothered to check she would probably notice that he was already very hard.

"I didn't have any other plans," she says breathlessly. Her eyes generally don't go to the front of a man's pants, but it's kind of hard to miss Thor. Part of her wants to question this and part of her says to just lean into it. Apparently, she's still got it.

Turning to him, she pulls him close and presses her lips to his.

Thor let out a sound that was half surprise, half groan of pleasure as she pulled him into the kiss. His fingers threaded through her hair, cupping the back of her neck, as his tongue teased hers. If they weren’t in this fragile Midgardian vehicle that required them to wear restraints he would have pulled her onto his lap.

“Already I’m getting all kinds of exciting ideas about what we can do together...”

Of all the ways that Jessica thought this evening might end, this was definitely not it. She puts a tentative hand on Thor's chest as she leans into the kiss, opening her mouth so that his tongue can slide against hers.

They pull back in order to catch their breaths. "Are you going to share them or just keep them to yourself?"

"Mmmmm, share them," he said, moving to nuzzle behind her ear and kiss along her neck. She smelled incredible and his lips still tingled from their kiss in a way that was incredibly thrilling. "I want to explore every inch of you with my mouth and my hands. Find out what makes you gasp and laugh... what drives you wild..."
